LEWISTON – William V. Dwinal, 89, formerly of 174 Lake St., Auburn, and a resident of the Oddfellows Home since October, passed away Wednesday, March 16, at d’Youville Pavilion.

Born in South Portland, on Sept. 3, 1915, he was the son of Augustus and Amy Verrill Dwinal. He was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of 1935, and remained active as class treasurer, even organizing his 60th reunion. He also attended Auburn, Maine, School of Commerce, where he earned a certificate in accounting.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from December of 1942 until his honorable discharge in January of 1946. After the war, he remained an active Army Reservist, retiring after 22 years as a Master Sergeant. In 1942, he married the former Barbara Mae Skinner, who passed away in 1994.

He was employed by Lewiston Trust, Depositors Trust and Key Bank before retiring in 1978, after more than 40 years. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, and held several offices in that organization over the years.

Survivors include two sons, David and wife, Suzanne, of Old Orchard Beach and Douglas and wife, Janis, of Lewiston; a daughter, Diana and husband, William O’Connell, of Pembroke, N.H.; six grandchildren, Bill and Kim O’Connell, Raina Brooks and Benjamin, Lynsay and Joshua Dwinal; four great-grandchildren, Victoria and Elaina Dwinal and Bennett and Beau Brooks; several nieces and nephews; and a dear longtime friend, Barbara Robertson.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Philip, Keith and Paul; and a sister, Methyl Purington.
