ROCKPORT – The Holocaust Human Rights Center of Maine is accepting nominations for the Outstanding Student of the Year Award. Awards will be given in art and writing categories for kindergarten to grades four and grades 5 to 12.
For grades kindergarten to four, this award recognizes a student who has written an extraordinarily effective piece of literature, either fiction or nonfiction, or who has created an unusually expressive piece of visual art relating to diversity, learning from many cultures, creating communities and confronting prejudice.
For grades five to 12, the award recognizes a student who has written an outstanding piece of literature, either fiction or nonfiction, or who has created an unusually expressive piece of visual or performance art relating to the Holocaust and/or issues of human rights.
All entries must be received by May 6. Award recipients will be notified by May 13. Awards will be presented Sunday, May 22, at the center’s annual meeting.
