RUMFORD – “Effective Discipline” is the topic of a workshop to be offered by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension from 9:30 a.m. to noon Friday, March 25, at the Rumford Public Library.

The free workshop is open to the public. Registration is required by Tuesday, March 22; call the Extension Office at 743-6329 or 1-800-287-1482 to register.

Effective discipline reduces problem behaviors. It teaches children self-responsibility, maintains self-esteem and strengthens the parent-child relationship.

“Effective disciplinarians gradually work themselves out of a job’,” said Wendy Legg Pollock, Extension educator and leader of the workshop.

“Children then learn what appropriate behavior is expected of them and become self-disciplined. Learning and using tools of effective discipline will greatly reduce the battles in any family,” Pollock said.
