RUMFORD – Central Maine Community College and the River Valley Technology Center have announced their April Small Business Institute workshops. All sessions will be held at River Valley Technology Center, 60 Lowell St.

For each, a second person from the same organization registering at the same time will receive a 50 percent discount.

Financing Your Business (SBI 004-RV) will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, April 5 and 12. The cost of the six-hour workshop is $105 and includes a textbook. The workshop is for small business owners who want to generate capital for their business. It will cover what bankers needs to know, what funding options are available and how to choose the right funding source. Van Perry, financial consultant will be the presenter.

Employment Taxes and the Small Business (SBI 011-RV) will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21. Cost of the two-hour workshop is $40. It will educate small business owners on employment tax obligations when hiring employees. Topics will include depositing employment taxes and federal employment forms that must be filed.

A portion of the workshop will involve determining a worker classification and the difference between an independent contractor and an employee. The presenter will by Shawn Savage of the Internal Revenue Service.
