RUMFORD – Leon G. Therriault Sr., 89, of Coburn Avenue, Dixfield, died Monday, March 28, at Rumford Community Hospital following a long illness.
He was born in Lewiston, on May 11, 1915, a son of Joseph and Ida (Boivin) Therriault.
He was educated in Dixfield schools and was a graduate of Dixfield High School, Class of 1934. He married the former Helen Fabian on Jan. 30, 1937, in Chisolm.
He was employed for 38 years with the former Boise Cascade Paper Co., in the Electrical Department.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows, Dixfield Fire Company, Oakdale Country Club and the 25/40 year club at the former Boise Cascade. For many years he played semi-pro baseball for the “Dixfield Dixies” in the old Pine Tree Baseball League.
He enjoyed spending time at his summer cottage in Harpswell digging clams and golfing, but most of all just enjoying life.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 68 years, Helen (Fabian) Therriault; three sons, Leon G. Jr., and wife, Theresa, of Mexico, Richard G. and wife, Ann, of Norridgewock and Thomas R. and wife, Bonita, of Dixfield; a daughter, Linda L. Dunlay and husband, Thomas, of Dixfield; three sisters, Rita Brown of Dixfield, Marguerite Brown of Mexico and Priscilla Robinson of Dixfield; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Rick Dunlay.
