Dear Sun Spots: You have been so helpful in the past. I am hoping you can help once more.
There was an article in the Sunday paper a few months ago about a young boy in Auburn who collects the nutcrackers. I have two, still in their original packing. I would like to be able to give them to the boy if he would like them. I hope you can help me find him.
Also, I have a pair of white ice skates, size 10, that I would like to give to someone who can use them. I also have a lot of 1,000-piece puzzles I would like to give to someone. I can be reached at (207) 784-5710. – E.L., Lewiston.
Answer: The young boy you are referring to is Nate Leclair, who was featured in the Dec. 31 Sun Journal. As of the time of publication, Leclair had collected 80. He started collecting nutcrackers at age 6 after the Christmas elf – that’s his dad, Norm – surprised him with one in a stocking.
His favorite has a squiggly nose and a handsome ax. The boy-sized figure, dotted with rhinestones, was a gift this year. Another nutcracker looks like a penguin, one like a snowman and a few like Santa. Most are variations on the central fellow in the ballet “The Nutcracker,” with crowns, white beards and glossy red, blue and gold colors. Some are golfers, fishermen or firefighters.
Only one nutcracker has ears – he’s wearing a furry Russian cap – and one has red hair.
Sun Spots spoke with his mother, Charlene, who says Nate will just love them! She says this is wonderful, and thanks you for the lovely gesture. You can reach mother and son at 38 Marshall Ave., Auburn, ME 04210.
Dear Sun Spots: We would appreciate your help.
We recently moved into a house that has a built-in, Jenn-Air wall oven. We have no instruction booklet to show us how to self-clean it nor how to use the other features. We called Agren Appliance and they gave us a number to call Jenn-Air. Jenn-Air said they would send us the instruction booklet. This was in October. We never got a response and have lost the number. Thank you in advance. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: Sun Spots contacted Jenn-Air at (800) 688-1100, which says the manual is no longer available. They apologized that you were not advised about that when you inquired. However, they kindly provided the following name and number for you to discuss the use and care of your oven: Contact Kathy Lourens at (641) 787-6361 who will be happy to assist you.
