ST. PETERSURG, Fla. – Brandon Brewer slammed a three-run homer in the third inning to help the University of Southern Maine to a 6-1 victory over John Carroll University on Tuesday.
Brewer’s first home run of the season broke a 1-1 tie and gave the Huskies (5-4) the lead for good.
The Husklies picked up a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning on Max Arsenault’s lead-off solo homer and a RBI single from Nick Vardaro. Tip Fairchild pitched the first seven innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while fanning eight to pick up his second win of the season.

Huskies, Buffalo split
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Melissa Henderson pitched a solid seven innings and received just enough support at the plate to salvage a 3-1 win over Buffalo State for the University of Southern Maine softball team in the first game of a doubleheader.
In the second game, Buffalo State scored the lone run of the game in the top of the sixth inning on a two-out triple by Emily Goldyn to earn the 1-0 win and a split.
