WOODSTOCK – A tractor-trailer truck driver reported only minor injuries after his vehicle rolled over Thursday morning on Route 26, according to police.
Patrick Giroux, 33, of Quebec, was hauling a load of recycled bottles north when he pulled to the side at 9:30 a.m. to let other vehicles pass, Deputy Justin Brown of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The truck “just cut into the soft shoulder and rolled over,” Brown said. He added that the incident is still under investigation.
According to Brown, Giroux said he was fine immediately after the accident, but later reported hip, side and leg pain. Giroux was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital.
Hospital spokeswoman Allison Cyr said Giroux was released Thursday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office, Maine State Police, Woodstock Fire Department and Tri-Town Rescue responded to the accident, Brown said. The scene was not cleared until 3:30 p.m.
“They had to separate the truck from the trailer,” Brown said. He did not have any estimate on the cost of damage, but said the trailer was “a complete loss” and had to be taken to a salvage yard.
The recycled bottles were stored nearby, Brown said, and the truck was taken to a repair shop.
No major spills were reported as a result of the rollover. “He lost a little bit of oil, but nothing to speak of,” Brown said.
