PHOENIX (AP) – Brandon Webb pitched six solid innings in his final tuneup for the regular season, and the Arizona Diamondbacks roughed up Tim Wakefield in a 10-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Friday.
Luis Gonzalez and Tony Clark each drove in two runs to lead Arizona. Webb, who gave up two runs, six hits and two walks, also had an RBI single.
He struck out four.
Wakefield was chased after getting only two outs. The knuckleballer allowed six runs, six hits and two walks in the first inning before being replaced by Tim Kester.
Shawn Green, Alex Cintron and Troy Glaus drove in runs for the Diamondbacks. Juan Brito and Craig Counsell each hit a sacrifice fly.
Arizona relievers Greg Aquino and Mike Koplove each pitched a hitless inning.
Doug Mirabelli, Mark Bellhorn and Ian Bladergroen had run-scoring singles for Boston, which opens the season Sunday night at Yankee Stadium.
