LEWISTON – Verna E. Wormwood, 81, of Auburn, formerly of Hampstead, N.H., died Friday, April 1, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1923, in Hampstead, N.H., the daughter of Raymond and Bertha Ladd Stevens. She graduated from Hampstead High School.

She married George A. Wormwood Jr. on Nov. 23, 1946, and he recently predeceased her in 2004.

She was a homemaker and mother of two for most of her life. She had worked for Merrimac Feed & Grain in Merrimac, N.H.

She was a member of the Minot Corner Methodist Church and the YWCA. She loved to sew and enjoyed cooking.

She is survived by her son, George III and his wife, Helen Wormwood, of Otisfield; a daughter, Linda Robicheau of Auburn; a son-in-law, Peter Robicheau of Naples; a sister, Janice Brantley of Arlington, Va.; three grandchildren, Kattie Bean and husband, Rodney Bean, of Norway, Haley Wormwood of South Paris, and Steve Robicheau of Baldwin; and two great-grandchildren.
