AUBURN – Councilors promoted a deputy as the city’s new tax collector Monday night.

The City Council agreed to hire Catherine Levesque as city tax collector, succeeding Diane Freve. City Manager Pat Finnigan said Freve resigned a month ago. Her last day on the job was Friday. Levesque has been with the city since 1987, most recently as Freve’s deputy.

In other business, councilors filled several vacant spots on city boards and committees.

“These are people that applied to the city, volunteering their time,” said Mayor Norm Guay. Councilors reviewed the applications last week.

They are:

• Gerard Belanger, reappointed to the Board of Assessment Review until December 2009.

• Pamela Philbrook Leary, reappointed to the Community Forest Board until September 2007.

• Charlotte Lehmann, appointed to the Community Forest Board until April 2008.

• Arthur Wing, appointed to the Housing Authority until October 2009.

• Joseph Maloney, reappointed to the Planning Board until November 2007.

• Richard Lee, reappointed to the Planning Board until January 2008.

• Stephen C. Lunt, reappointed to the Airport Board until January 2008.

• Beverley Heath, reappointed to the Sewer District until March 2009.

• Joseph DeFilipp, appointed to the Sewer District until March 2006.

• Franklin H. Goss and Catherine Thorpe, both reappointed to the Water District until March 2009.

• Everett Trask, reappointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals until October 2007.

• Brian Carrier, appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals as an associate member until April 2008.
