WOODSTOCK – Selectmen approved a request from Road Foreman Randy Eastman allowing him to purchase a hot water heater that will run off the Fire Department’s boiler.
According to Eastman, eliminating the electric system serving the highway garage will save money in the long run because the furnace needs to run anyway to heat the garage and there is no sense in having two separate systems to do what actually is one job.
Selectmen Chairman Leon Poland said, “I’m sure it will be cheaper to run a hot water system from the boiler. Right now we are paying for both electricity and oil to do one job that can be done efficiently with just oil. I think this would be a good idea.”
Asked about the cost of the changeover, Town Manager Vern Maxfield said, “We have a quote from the Woodstock Oil Co. for $1,456 and they can do the job right away if you (the selectmen) approve it.”
The full board agreed and the vote approving the request was unanimous.
The board also discussed the fact that changing the highway garage to a full hot water heating system might need to be considered in the future. But because the estimated $11,920.80 cost from the Woodstock Oil Co. was not included in the 2005 budget, such an idea has to wait.
“Keep in mind we are just talking at this time, but it may be something to think about down the road,” said Selectman Judy Bennett.
Before taking up the highway garage issues, Bennett and Poland welcomed newly elected Selectman Bruce Korhonen, who was attending his first meeting of the board.
