MONTVILLE, Conn. (AP) – Asher P. Robbins, 25, of East Lyme, a beer truck driver for F&F Distributors of New London has been charged with drunken driving after state police said his speeding, weaving truck forced other vehicles, including three school buses off an eastern Connecticut road.

He began his wild ride Thursday afternoon by striking five cars in a Colchester parking lot used for construction equipment, state police said.

Robbins then head south on Route 85, prompting several emergency phone calls from people about a beer truck traveling erratically on the highway.

State police said that Robbins traveled nearly 10 miles, swerving in and out of traffic, speeding, running red lights and stop signs. Vehicles were forced to veer out of the way. The school buses were carrying young children, police said.

Robbins was eventually stopped at the Salem/Montville town line and arrested after failing a sobriety test, state police said.
