GORHAM – The University of Southern Maine rallied back from a 4-1 deficit Tuesday to come away with a 7-5 victory over Endicott College in local collegiate baseball action.

Endicott (14-7) took a 4-1 advantage in the fourth inning as the Huskies’ (11-5) defense committed two of their seven errors. Run-scoring singles by Ryan Bourque and Eddie Skeffington cut the deficit to 4-3, and sophomore Nick Vadaro gave the Huskies a 5-4 lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth. Pat Foley picked up the mound win after 3.2 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.

Mike Daggett, who stepped in to relieve for Endicott in the fourth band, absorbed the loss.

Huskies split

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Melissa Henderson threw a solid seven innings with 10 strikeouts and Kristin McGovern smacked a two-run triple to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 3-1 victory over Bridgewater State in the first of two games Tuesday.

Henderson scattered four hits and walked two as she earned her sixth win of the season.

In the nightcap, Bridgewater State (10-9) took a 1-0 lead after two innings, then added four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to down the Huskies (9-9) 8-2. USM committed four errors in the game, the most costly of which came in the fifth when the Bears did most of their damage.

The Huskies plated two runs in the top of the fifth to take 2-1 lead off run-scoring hits from Christen Lachapelle and Caitlin Riitano. The Bears countered in the bottom of the inning when Nicole Hebert ripped a bases-loaded, two-run single. Katie Tauber earned the mound win while Riitano was tagged with her fourth loss of the season.
