WOODSTOCK – Twenty first-graders from Sheri Wentworth’s Woodstock Elementary School class had the honor last week of being the first to view a collection of new hardcover books from the Whitman Memorial Library.
According to trustee Marta Clements, purchase of the new books was made possible by a grant from the Libri Foundation of Eugene, Ore.
“We received $1,500 from the Libri Foundation after we raised a small local share of $350,” said Clements.
Clements said the Libri Foundation focuses on helping small rural libraries across the country to provide books for young people from preschool age to junior high.
A schedule is being arranged for other classes to have a chance to see the new books.
The Whitman Memorial Library’s trustees hope that similar programs and grants will help promote a greater love of reading and increase an already good circulation of reading materials at the Bryant Pond facility.
