AUGUSTA – The Maine Arts Commission will hold a series of free workshops around the state in May. Contemporary artists, traditional artists, cultural administrators, educators, cultural entrepreneurs and community members are invited to participate.

There will be workshops on public art, the agency’s support for art organizations in Maine, public relations and marketing for artists and cultural businesses, community arts development and traditional arts, artist portfolio-building, arts accessibility, arts education, Maine’s creative economy initiative, technology for artists and cultural organizations and working with national and regional arts funders.

The open houses will run from noon to 5 p.m. The Maine Arts Commission staff will be on hand during that time to answer questions and hear suggestions about how the agency can best serve artists and Maine communities.

The workshops are scheduled for: Wednesday, May 4, Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockport; Tuesday, May 10, Whitney Artworks, Portland; Wednesday, May 11, Berwick Academy, South Berwick.

Also, Wednesday, May 18, Norway Memorial Library and the Commons, Norway; Tuesday, May 24, Musee Culturel du Mont-Carmel, Lille; Wednesday, May 25, Maine Center for the Arts, Orono; Thursday, May 25, Eastport Arts Center, Eastport.
