Bethel – After 16-plus years of service, Dorothy York of Bethel has retired from Northeast Bank at age 78.
She had been the mainstay for the customers using the drive-up at the bank’s Bethel branch.
The former owner of Martha’s Restaurant joined the then Bethel Savings Bank in 1987 as a teller and will be retiring as “one of the best tellers we’ve ever had,” said Jim Delamater of Northeast Bank.
“I was always amazed at Dot’s attendance and balancing records over the years, both nearing perfection.”
According to her manager Cheryl Burnham, on busy days, York would average more than 200 transactions.
Customer’s who used the drive-up exclusively would cross out Northeast Bank and put “Dot’s Bank” on the ticket since to them she was the only face of the bank, otherwise known as “drive-up Dot.”
A retirement party and open house was held in her honor at the Bethel branch of Northeast Bank on March 3.
Customers and employees alike bid farewell to the shy but always smiling York.
