AUBURN – A series of lectures and discussions on how the Pentecost affected the early church will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Monday through May 16 at St. Philip’s Parish Hall. Suggested free-will offering is $5 per class. The course will also explore the life and ministry of St. Paul who was most responsible for the development of Christian moral theology and the expansion of Christianity from Asia Minor to Europe. VFW election

LEWISTON – The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 and auxiliary will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. Officers will be elected and upcoming activities discussed.

The District 9 meeting will be held at noon, followed by lunch and presentation of awards for area students. Veterans wishing to become a member should attend.

Gardening tips

LEWISTON – The National Association of Retired Federal Employees will meet at noon, Tuesday, April 26, at the Ramada Inn, when Jody Goodwin, gardening columnist for the Sun Journal, will give gardening tips.

Goodwin has been gardening in Turner for more than 25 years and has served on a variety of committees in Turner and Androscoggin County.

Plans for the meeting were made at a recent board meeting. Attending were Sue Stetson, Mike and Flo Bohunicky, Vi Dumais, Therese Baumer, Jayne Bickford and Doris Hamel.

AARP speaker

LEWISTON – Androscoggin Chapter 4077 of AARP will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Multi-Purpose Center on Birch Street. The board of directors will meet at 12:30.

Speaker will be Elliott Levey, executive director of the Poland Spring Preservation Society. The group works to preserve the Maine State Building, built in 1893, and All Souls Chapel, built in 1912.

Members are encouraged to attend and guests are welcome. Drawings will be held and refreshments served.

Seniors to meet

AUBURN – The Young at Heart Fellowship will meet on Tuesday, April 26, at the Court Street Baptist Church. A food sale will be held at 10:30 a.m. Members are reminded to bring food for the sale. Mary and Winston Greaton, co-presidents, will conduct the meeting.

Devotions will be led by the Rev. Charles Bray of Gray, former pastor of the Court Street Baptist Church. There will be a potluck luncheon at noon. Bring place setting.

The Edward Little High School Chamber Singers, under the direction of Beth Labrie, will present their annual spring concert. All seniors are invited.

Resort trip

LEWISTON – Meadowview Park Seniors of Lewiston are sponsoring a trip to Indian Head Resort on Saturday, May 14. There are spaces available to anyone interested. The price of $48 includes transportation by bus, free cocktail, buffet and show. For more information, call Bert Dutil at 786-2305.
