WOODSTOCK – Selectmen on Tuesday scheduled a public hearing to update the list of roads closed to winter maintenance.
Town Manager Vern Maxfield said the hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. May 17 at the town office meeting room. It will allow townspeople to say which roads they wish to be closed to plowing. The list is reviewed every five years.
On the list are Concord Pond Road from the Milton town line to the Peru town line, Granite Ledge Road from Concord Pond Road to the Eagles Nest Turn, and the Billings Hill Road from the Rosenburg residence to the bridge. To be considered for the first time is Ricker Road.
Selectmen also voted to increase the travel reimbursement for town employees from 30 cents to 40 cents immediately.
Maxfield said the rate has not changed for many years.
“Our rate has been the same for a long time,” he said. “And perhaps it’s time we increased it to at least equal what other towns are paying.”
“I think we should increase it to 40 cents a mile because we never pay much during the year anyway,” Chairman Leon Poland said. “With gas prices the way they are today, 30 cents doesn’t come close to making up for what our employees have to pay when carrying out town business.”
