PORTLAND (AP) – Mike Jacobs and Joe Hietpas hit two-run homers as the Binghamton Mets edged the Portland Sea Dogs 6-5 Wednesday in the Eastern League.
Jeff Bailey and Jim Buckley homered for the Sea Dogs.
The Mets (8-6) held a 4-0 lead after two innings. Jacobs’ blast scored a pair of runs in the first and Hietpas’ shot added two in the second.
Bailey’s two-run homer was the big blow as Portland (11-2) rallied for four runs to tie it in the fourth. Buckley’s solo homer – his first Double-A hit – gave Portland a 5-4 lead in the fifth. Joe Caligiuri’s RBI double keyed the Mets’ two-run rally in the seventh.
Neither starting pitcher was involved in the decision. Reliever Orlando Roman (1-0) struck out three and gave up one run over 2 1/3 innings to win the game, while Manny Delcarmen (1-1) took the loss.
