LEWISTON – Openings remain for the Lewiston Rec Lacrosse Program for boys and girls in Grades 7-8. Games for that group will be held on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, in late afternoon or early evening, from late April into May. Travel will occur, and some Saturdays will be used for make-up dates and tournaments. Dave Haefele, EMC Bates College athletic equipment manager/coach, is serving as program director.

Cost is $75 for Lewiston residents and $85 for non-residents. The fee includes a 2005 jersey. Those interested can contact the Lewiston Rec Department at 782-5951.

Lifeguard course slated

AUBURN – The Auburn-Lewiston YMCA is offering a Lifeguard Certification Course encompassing the following dates: April 25, 28, May 2, 5, 9, 11, 23, 26 and 31. Combined classroom and pool time will run about 6:30-10 p.m. each night.

There are several prerequisites for the course, including a 500-yard swim and a minimum age of 15. Upon completion of the course, the lifeguard certification and first aid are good for three years. The CPR expires after one year.

Course fee is $200, including materials. Class size is limited to eight students. Registrations are being accepted at the YMCA at 62 Turner St. More information is available by calling 795-4095.

Bottle drive planned

AUBURN – The Edward Little High School softball team is conducting a bottle drive to raise funds for new varsity uniforms. Returnables can be taken to Wheeler’s Market in New Auburn. More information is available by calling Barbara Chamberlain at 784-7850.
