DANBURY, Conn. – The Western Connecticut State University Colonials baseball team shook things up in the Little East Conference with a doubleheader sweep of University of Southern Maine Huskies Sunday afternoon, 8-6 and 9-8, at Westside Field.

The sweep gives the Colonials six wins in their last seven games, and improved their record to 11-13 overall and 4-3 in the conference. The Huskies have lost three straight games to slide to 17-9 overall and 4-3 in the LEC.

Men’s lacrosse

Middlebury 14, Colby 3

HARTFORD, Conn. – Jim Cabrera had three goals and two assists to lead the fourth-ranked Middlebury College men’s lacrosse team to a 14-3 win against Colby College in New England Small College Athletic Conference play Sunday at Trinity College.

Middlebury (10-1, 7-0 NESCAC) led 5-0 after one quarter and 8-3 at halftime. Neither team managed a goal in the third quarter, but the Panthers exploded for all six goals in the final 15 minutes.

Plymouth State 14, USM 9

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Adam Krinsky and junior Bobby Dabrieo registered five points apiece and junior Jon Gagnon recorded his 100th career point Sunday afternoon as Plymouth State University defeated the University of Southern Maine, 14-9, in a Little East Conference men’s lacrosse game at rainy Panther Field.

The Huskies, which led at the end of the first two quarters but couldn’t hold on, fall to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the LEC.

USM took a 3-0 lead midway through the opening frame, thanks to two goals and one assist from junior Travis Witham.
