This is in response to the April 20 letter from Roland Carville suggesting the Lisbon Board of Selectmen should resign for not enacting a zoning request, instead sending it to the next town meeting. The fact is the board of selectmen cannot enact zoning changes (see MRSA 30-A Section 4352).

The board did place it on the May 16 town meeting warrant. Passage will require a two-thirds vote due to opposition from the Planning Board. The board was not required to act but did afford the property owner access to the town meeting warrant.

Michael Bowie, chairman,

Lisbon Board of Selectmen
