AUBURN – There was one major upset as playoffs began this week in the Auburn Rec Women’s Slowdown Basketball League.

No. 6 Young Ones surprised No. 3 QP&S 40-32 Tuesday as Pauline Veinote netted 10 points and Nancy Fournier 8. Sue Swanson paced the losers with 10. Courtney Hagner added 4.

No. 2 Rec-Ing Crew edged No. 7 Independent Women 47-45. Joleen Blue tossed in 18 for Crew. Lynne Whitney was next with 10. Jessica Day tallied 16 for Independent Women. Ashley Golden chipped in with 14.

No. 5 Hoop Camp knocked off No. 4 Shirl’s Girls 41-26 as Katie Morin scored 15. Lisa Blake (10) and Kerri Watson (8) added support. Kelly Brower collected 12 for the Girls. Karen Desjardins added 6.

Wednesday night, Old School (1) defeated Hoop Camp 42-35. Erin Lovely led with 17 points. Adding to the total were Kati Morrell (13) and Betsy Pratt (12). Morin registered 12 for the Campers. Blake added 8.

Rec-Ing Crew beat Young Ones 53-34 as Laura Patz and Michelle Rollins netted 14 each. Veinote scored 15 for Young Ones. Fournier was next with 8.

QP&S eliminated Independent Women 46-26 as Sandy Bowden collected 11 and Cathy Marston 8. Golden sank 12 in a losing effort. Day added 7.
