This is in response to the letter from Greg Herrick published April 28. Mr. Herrick has been misinformed about the present and past status of the Poland Rescue Department. He stated that under its former chief, Melody Stevens, that she promised paramedics but seldom was one available.
That is not true. Under Chief Stevens, there were seven paramedics available for calls. At the present time, I believe there is one paramedic available for calls, which is why United is called so frequently. If that is true, who is going to man a large new rescue vehicle (estimated price tag, $380,000)?
Maybe the town should look into contracting with United for full, 24-hour, seven-day-a-week coverage.
