AUGUSTA – The Maine Department of Health and Human Services, A Family For ME and private agencies working with foster parents and children in foster care will kick off National Foster Care Month with a celebration from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 2, at the Hall of Flags in the State House.

Speakers will include Gov. John Baldacci, presentations and entertainment. The morning activities will continue to highlight foster care in the state as meeting the needs of children in care through its foster parents and community involvement.

There are currently 2,650 children and young adults in the care of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and 1,200 licensed foster homes.

The Department of Health and Human Services, A Family For ME, private foster care agencies and communities across the State of Maine will continue to recognize foster care throughout May.
