Dear Sun Spots: Literacy Volunteers of Androscoggin County is seeking volunteers!

We need business community members or leaders with fund-raising or development skills, a love for literacy and a willingness to volunteer to help us grow and serve our needs in the Androscoggin County area. We are also seeking volunteers with bookkeeping/accounting experience as well as anyone with an interest in literacy and a desire and willingness to help people.

Literacy Volunteers Androscoggin provides free, one-one-one tutoring services in basic literacy skills to adults in the greater Lewiston-Auburn area.

If interested, please contact Tahlia Hope, executive director, Literacy Volunteers-Androscoggin, 140 High St., Great Falls School, Auburn, Maine 04210, (207) 753-1772. We’d love to have you on board! – Tahlia Hope, Auburn.

Dear Sun Spots: My first request, but your column has helped me dozens of times with information that I couldn’t get elsewhere.

A few months ago you advised someone that there was someone, or two, that serviced Smith Corona word processors in the Auburn area, who would pick up machines and return them. Could you please reprint that information. Thank you so much. I’m in desperate need of my machine. – Roger Lane, Fayette.

Answer: Contact Affordable Business Machines. Both Ray Ouimette and Bruce Robertson do pickup and deliveries at no extra charge in the Lewiston-Auburn, Farmington, Norway, South Paris areas and others. They sell, repair and sell ribbons for typewriters. You can reach them at (207) 946-2949.

Dear Sun Spots: I’m trying to find Red Star yeast which I used to get at Myers country store in Greene. The store is no longer open. I can be reached at (207) 946-5503. – Helene Laroche, Greene.

Answer: In addition to responses from readers, according to www.redstaryeast.com, your local Shaw’s Supermarket should be carrying it. You might want to contact them to see if they have it in stock.

Dear Sun Spots: Each morning I read Sun Spots in your paper. I have some magazines that I was wondering if anyone who does scrapbooking might be interested in? If interested, please call me at (207) 743-6535. Thank you. – Helen H., South Paris.

Dear Sun Spots: Many people get help to find things when they write to your column. I am hoping someone can help me.

I am looking for a person who has experience doing silhouette portraits. Please call Pauline at (207) 783-0566. Thank you. – Pauline Fortin, Sabattus.

Dear Sun Spots: Androscoggin Habitat for Humanity will hold its second annual yard sale this year. Proceeds will help us provide simple, decent homes for low-income families in Androscoggin County. Our newest building will be happening very soon in Lewiston, and we are presently accepting applications. We are looking for individuals to donate their unwanted items for our yard sale and are willing to pick up these items. If you have anything you would like to donate to this fund-raising event, please call us at 786-2598. Thank you to all those individuals in our community who continue to support us. – Kim Veilleux, Auburn.
