I am saddened over the way that the Rev. Doug Taylor, a personal friend and fellow minister, has been portrayed in the Sun Journal (April 10). In the six years that I have known him and other ministerial colleagues, I have had nothing but the highest respect for the Rev. Taylor and his love and commitment to build a better future for today and tomorrow’s children. In one fell swoop, a single image betrays the real man that I know. He loves and cares for children so much that he works so he can minister essentially without pay.

The Rev. Taylor did not decide that homosexuality is inappropriate behavior; homosexuality runs contrary to God’s design for human relationships. He is seeking to be a faithful and vigilant voice for the truths of God, in a culture where it’s popular to do what is right in an individual’s own eyes.

My prayer is that Taylor’s reputation be restored, that those struggling with homosexuality be healed and that the community of Lewiston receive a touch of God’s holiness, mercy and grace in the days ahead.
