CANTON – William H. Dickson Jr., 69, of Dix Avenue, Dixfield, died Saturday, April 30, at the Victorian Villa Rehabilitation and Living Center, Canton.
He was born in Rumford, on July 31, 1935, a son of William and Ada (Bradeen) Dickson Sr. He grew up in Mexico and graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1953.
After graduation, he worked at Oxford Paper Co. until he joined the U.S. Marines and served as a corporal from 1955 to 1959. He then went back to the mill to work. He also worked for Ethyl Corp. and Boise Cascade Paper Co. He worked in the pipe shop at the mill for more than 25 years before his disability retirement in 1978.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 100, Dixfield, and Robert Shand Post 1641, V.F.W., in Rumford. He had attended the Mexico Congregational Church.
He was married in Mexico, on Feb. 5, 1977, to the former Peggy Gallant, who survives of Dixfield.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jamie Dickson and companion, Judy Van Steemburg, of Portland, Brian Dickson and wife, Tammy, of Palm Bay, Fla., and Jeffrey Dickson and wife, Donna, of Lemore, Calif.; two daughters, Heather Hansen of Cape Elizabeth, and Cheryl Lowman and husband, Dean, of Gastonia, N.C.; six grandchildren, Nathan and Paul Hansen of Cape Elizabeth, Ryan and Megan Dickson of Palm Bay, Fla., and Amber and Zachary Lowman of Gastonia, N.C.; two brothers, John Dickson and wife, Donna, of Portland, Conn., and Richard Dickson and wife, Jean, of Smithfield, R.I.; a sister, Margo Conley and husband, James, of Portland.
