DIXFIELD – Several people are running for two seats on the Board of Selectmen, but candidates for the SAD 21 board are scarce.

Seeking the seat held by Selectman Montell Kennedy for the past few years are Bettina Martin, a resident of Sugarloaf Avenue, and Norman Mitchell, who lives in East Dixfield. Kennedy is not running for re-election.

Martin is the current chairwoman of the town’s Finance Committee and is retired from a position as a finance director. Mitchell, who has sought a selectman’s seat in the past, is an insurance agent who serves on the town’s Planning Board and Comprehensive Plan Committee.

Three people returned nomination papers for the one year remaining in former Selectman Steve Donahue’s three-year term. They are: MeadWestvaco employee Dan Hallock of Bradley Street; antiques dealer William deVries, a member of the River Valley Growth Council, who lives on Weld Street; and Brenda Turbide of Coburn Avenue, who is a member of the town’s Water Advisory Committee.

Bruce Ross, a dentist who works in Rumford and a resident of Nova Street, is seeking the SAD 21 board seat vacated by David Law. One year remains in the term.

No one had returned nomination papers by the April 29 deadline for a three-year seat on the school board currently held by Victoria Brown.

Town Manager Nanci Allard said that seat could be filled by an appointment by selectmen or by write-in ballot.

Residents will vote on June 14. The annual town meeting is set for Thursday, June 2.
