LAKE WALES, Fla. – Mary Hood, 78, of Auburn, died on Monday, May 2, at the Grove Center in Lake Wales, Fla.

Born on Jan. 21, 1927, in Brewer, she had been a winter resident of Lake Wales for 17 years.

She was a recovery unit clerk at Maine Medical Center. She was also a member of the Saddlebag Community Church.

She enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing, playing the organ, animals, vegetable and flower gardening, and traveling. She was also a great cook and enjoyed going to outings with her friends from the Saddlebag group.

She is survived by her husband, Nelson A. Hood, of Auburn; daughters, Sherryl Smith and Paula Burgess, both of South Portland; stepdaughters, Deborah Nuemiester of Oakland and Louella Hood of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepson, Rickie Hood of Auburn; sister, Virginia Williamson of Upton; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Alvena Jordon and Anne Moulton.
