I believe the film “The Letter” tends to ignore the role played by the local educational institutions in awakening the Lewiston community and students to organize “Many and One.” Two open meetings were held previous to community reaction, one at the Central Maine Community College, the other at Bates College – the latter supported by a grant from the Maine Humanities Council.
