LEWISTON – About 100 arts aficionados pumped nearly $39,000 into L/A Arts’ coffers Saturday night at the 16th Annual Maine Arts Invitational auction at Lewiston-Auburn College.
Roughly $15,000 will be paid to the artists who contributed 63 items to the auction, said Penny Drumm, business manager for the local nonprofit group. All but a half-dozen pieces sold, she said.
Last year, the organization raised about $34,000 through combined ticket sales and auctioned items, she said. Roughly $14,000 of that went to the artists.
The pieces were a mixed bag, including photography, drawings, paintings, ceramics, wood and metal sculpture and jewelry.
Music by the UMA Jazz Cafe Ensemble and snacks were followed by bidding, with Jody McMorrow of Poland serving as auctioneer.
L/A Arts, of 221 Lisbon St., Lewiston, is a 31-year-old local arts agency promoting dance, music and theatre.
