LIVERMORE FALLS – Louis Quirrion thought he heard running water when he woke up Saturday morning but it was the crackling of fire in the mobile home he and a roommate shared.

His room was already filling with smoke, Quirrion said, and when he opened his bedroom door, he could see fire around the ceiling in the hallway and the other end of the mobile home. He ended up running out the back door of the mobile home at 43 Souther Road, about a half-mile from Route 17.

“I came out with a pair of long johns on,” Quirrion, 33, said, “I still have them on.”

Neighbors gave him some clothes to put on over the long johns. Everything he had in the home was destroyed by fire, including wallet, keys to his truck, cell phone, guns, credit cards, and $400 in cash, he said.

“I just got paid,” Quirrion said, from his job at Isaacson Lumber Co. in Livermore Falls.

His roommate, Sidney Crosson, had left for work in southern Maine about 6:30 a.m.

The fire was reported about 7:54 a.m. by Dave Jackson, who was driving by and called 9-1-1 on his cell phone. The call went to state police and then to Livermore Falls emergency dispatch, said Livermore Falls Fire Chief Ken Jones.

Quirrion, 33, stood on the side of the yard as he watched firefighters from Livermore Falls, Livermore and Jay battle the blaze.

Quirrion said he tried to go back in, but couldn’t.

Neighbor, Vicki Souther, who is a companion of the owner of the mobile home, Wilbur Souther, said Quirrion had come over to tell them the trailer was on fire.

“We were all asleep,” Souther said.

Souther said she and others tried to get to Autumn, a 6-month-old Rottweiler puppy in a kennel in the living room, but couldnt get into the home.

“When we heard the dog barking and we couldn’t get in, It just ripped my heart out,” Souther said, as tears ran down her face.

Jones said about 45 firefighters from the three towns responded to the fire.

When he arrived on the scene, Jones said flames were already showing in the middle area, which appears to be the kitchen area of one of two mobile home that were adjoined together with additions attached to both units and an additional roof above the mobile homes. One of the units was used as storage.

There was no insurance on the home and personal belongings, Jones said.

All the belongings were destroyed, he said.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, Jones said Saturday afternoon.

No one was injured, Jones said, but NorthStar Emergency Medical Services personnel stood by on the scene along with Livermore Falls police.
