CINCINNATI – Austin Kearns capped a six-run sixth inning with a two-run homer and D’Angelo Jimenez had three hits as the Cincinnati Reds snapped an eight-game losing streak with an 11-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. The Reds matched their season high in runs and avoided their longest losing streak since an 11-game drought in June 1998.

Los Angeles starter Derek Lowe had a 3-0 lead and had allowed just one hit before the Reds sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth.

Lowe (2-3) gave up seven hits and six runs in 5 2-3 innings.

Braves 4, Astros 1

ATLANTA – Julio Franco hit his first home run of the season and Horacio Ramirez pitched seven shutout innings as the Atlanta Braves beat Houston 4-1 Saturday night, sending the Astros to their 10th straight road loss.

Ramirez (2-2) gave up only three hits in his longest outing of the season. Dan Kolb walked two and loaded the bases in the ninth before striking out Willy Taveras to earn his ninth save in 10 opportunities.

Nationals 11, Giants 8

SAN FRANCISCO – Ryan Church hit a tiebreaking, bases-clearing double in the ninth inning and finished with career highs of four hits and four RBIs, and the Washington Nationals sent the San Francisco Giants to their season-worst fourth straight loss with an 11-8 win Saturday.

The Nationals tied it in the ninth against Jeremy Accardo (0-1), called up from Double-A Norwich on Monday as the Giants try to make do without injured closer Armando Benitez.

Padres 5, Cardinals 4

ST. LOUIS – Adam Eaton pitched into the seventh inning after a shaky start and seldom-used Mark Sweeney had the go-ahead hit for the second straight game in the San Diego Padres’ 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.

Trevor Hoffman worked the ninth for the 401st save of his career, one day after becoming the third pitcher in major league history to reach 400.

Phillies 4, Cubs 1

CHICAGO – Jimmy Rollins snapped a tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single, and the Philadelphia Phillies sent the Chicago Cubs to their seventh straight loss with a 4-1 victory Saturday.

It is the Cubs’ longest losing streak since they dropped nine in a row from May 8-18, 2002.

Jon Lieber (5-1) was sharp against his former team, allowing one run, four hits and two walks in 7 1-3 innings. He struck out a season-high six.

Pinch-hitter Jose Offerman drove in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the ninth inning to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead.

Marlins 4, Rockies 1

MIAMI – Josh Beckett pitched seven shutout innings and the Florida Marlins beat Colorado 4-1 Saturday, extending the Rockies’ losing streak to 10 games.

Beckett (5-2) allowed five hits and one walk, lowering his ERA to 2.14. Left fielder Miguel Cabrera threw out a runner at the plate, went 3-for-4 with a walk and drove in Florida’s first run.

Colorado fell to 6-21, baseball’s worst record and the worst start in franchise history. The Rockies are on pace to finish 36-126.

They did well to keep the latest loss close. Shawn Chacon (1-2) walked nine, allowed four hits and made a throwing error, but held the Marlins to two runs in 5 2-3 innings. Florida stranded 10 in the first six innings.
