FOXBORO, Mass. (AP) – Goals by Patrick Noonan and Clint Dempsey carried the unbeaten New England Revolution past the Chicago Fire 2-0 on Saturday night.
Noonan scored his fourth goal of the season in the 34th minute, converting a pass from Dempsey.
Dempsey notched his fifth goal of the season in the 58th minute, one-timing a pass from Steve Ralston.
New England goalkeeper Matt Reis made six saves to record his third straight shutout and his fourth of the season.
Chicago’s best scoring threats came off a pair of first-half corner kicks by Chris Armas and Jim Curtin.
The Eastern Conference-leading Revolution (5-0-1) built a six-point lead over second-place Chicago (3-3-1).
The players and more than 8,000 fans had to endure a driving rain, a stiff wind and a game-time temperature of 40 degrees.
