RUMFORD – Joseph Patrick Parent, 88, died Sunday, May 8, at the Rumford Community Home in Rumford. He was a former resident of the Roxbury Notch Road in Roxbury and recently resided at the Rumford Community Home.

He was born in Norway, on March 31, 1917, a son of Albert and Yvonne (Thibodeau) Parent and had attended schools in Roxbury.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army. He had been employed at Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford and retired from the shipping department. He was a member of the Slippery Sliders Snowmobile Club.

He was married in Rumford in February 1939 to the late Cecile Belanger.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Knapp and husband, Richard, of Roxbury, Priscilla Sargeant of Rumford and Theresa Bolduc and husband, Francis, of Andover; three sons, Albert Parent of Maynard, Mass., Harvey Parent and wife, Betty, of Mexico, and Lionel Parent and wife, Susan, of Rumford; a sister, Juliette White of Andover; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
