FRYEBURG – A late afternoon head-on collision sent two people to hospitals Wednesday.
Three cars were involved in the accident, according to Fryeburg Officer Dick Murray. Four people were involved, but he declined to identify any of them.
He said a 73-year-old New Hampshire woman driving a Buick Rendezvous and a young woman riding in a Jeep Cherokee were injured in the 5:29 p.m. crash a quarter-mile west of Hemlock Bridge and Denmark Road on Route 302.
Both were taken by ambulance to Bridgton Hospital. The New Hampshire woman was taken by ambulance to Maine Medical Center in Portland. The young woman was taken by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Murray said the Jeep was westbound on Route 302 when it drifted across the yellow line and struck the Buick. A third car, a blue Dodge Stratus, was also westbound and ran into the back of the Jeep.
“It ran right underneath the Jeep, but they were fine,” Murray said. “It came to a rest down the road and then the driver got out to help the people in the other cars.”
