RUMFORD – Annie Theresa Hand, 93, died Thursday, May 12, at the Rumford Community Home, where she had resided for more than five years.

She was born in Mexico, on Aug. 24, 1911, a daughter of Francis Hand and Katherine Kelly Hand.

She attended local schools, graduating from Mexico High School in 1930, where she enjoyed being on the basketball team, track team, and hiking squad, and being captain of the field hockey team.

After graduation, she went to work for the J.J. Newberry Co. where she worked for more than 45 years. Later, she worked as a clerk for DR’s Dress shop.

She enjoyed working with the public and was well-known on Congress Street in Rumford.

She was a very religious person and was a parishioner of St. Theresa’s Church in Mexico. She lived most of her life at her home that she loved at 25 Roxbury Road, Mexico.

She enjoyed going for rides, family gatherings, working in her flower garden and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day. She had friendships from childhood that she cherished. Her true joy was in helping others, especially the sick people in her neighborhood. She did this for many years, even after working all day at her other job. Annie will be remembered by family and friends as a very kind woman who devoted her life to helping others.

She found great joy in family and friends and will be greatly missed. Her true joy was that of her nieces and nephews. She was known as “Aunt Annie” to all who knew her.

She is survived by a very special nephew, Kevin Hand; also nephews, Timothy E. Kelcourse and wife, Joanne, of Mexico, and Dannel J. Kelcourse and wife, Twilia, of Argyle, Texas; nieces, Maureen E.
