AUBURN – Community Little Theatre will present “I Hate Hamlet,” a comedy by Paul Rudnick, June 3 to 12.

The show is directed by Linda Britt. Scott Powers will play the lead, Andrew Rally, star of a recently canceled TV soap opera, who has a date with destiny. Set to play Hamlet in Central Park, he rents an apartment that once belonged to the greatest Hamlet ever, John Barrymore, played by Stan Spilecki.

The problem is Andrew hates Shakespeare. To make matters worse, Barrymore’s ghost still haunts his old place and he makes it his mission to help Andrew fulfill his “actor’s destiny.” Contributing to the madness are Andrew’s virginal girlfriend, Deirdre McDavey, played by Liz Rollins; his New York agent, Lillian Troy, played by Muriel Kenderdine (who once had an affair with Barrymore); his over-the-top Hollywood producer, Gary Peter Lefkowitz, played by Roger Philippon; and his seance-conducting real estate agent, Felicia Dantine, played by CarlaRose Ricciuti.

Amid all this commotion and confusion, there is a sword fight. Whether people love Shakespeare or hate him, “I Hate Hamlet” is sure to make them laugh. John Jenkins is lending his expertise to the sword choreography scenes.

Amey Feeley is assistant director; Ellen Peters is the producer with Dot Smith as assistant. Jason Pelletier is assistant to the director. The production crew includes Penny Appleby, costumes, assisted by Dot Smith; Bill Hamilton, set design; Richard Martin, lighting; Marc Bissonnette, sound; Rachel Morin, publicity; Celeste Philippon, stage manager, assisted by Marissa Jalbert; Scott Powers, properties; Stan Spilecki, set decor; Melody Driscoll, rehearsal prompter; Doreen Traynor, business manager; and Tim Traynor, construction.
