ROCKLAND – Thelma S. Pierce, 87, died Thursday, May 12, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a long illness.

Born in Lewiston, May 12, 1918, she was a daughter of Raymond P. and Annie Tetlow Stevens. She was raised in Auburn, where she attended local schools and graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1936.

On Dec. 31, 1941, she married Albert F. Pierce in Auburn. The couple made their home in Auburn until moving to Rockland in 1961.

For more than five years, with her husband, she owned and operated Rockland Bowling Center. She later worked several years as a stitcher at School House Togs in Camden and Rockland.

A longtime member of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, she enjoyed participation in the Fidelas Sunday School class. For many years she served as a volunteer during the Lobster Festival. She was also active with Rockland Senior Citizens and Rockland Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed a longtime friendship with Vera Pine of Rockland.

She is survived by two sons, Albert F. Pierce Jr. of Augusta, and Donald M. Pierce and his companion, Sandra Fetchen, both of Rockland; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as two nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1984, and a brother Lloyd Stevens.
