PORTLAND – Barbara Louise Towle, 62, of Old Orchard Beach, formerly of Wilton, died May 16, at Mercy Hospital in Portland, following a brief illness.

She was born Sept. 17, 1942, in Calais, the daughter of Alexander and H. Frances (Beal) Hatt. She received her education in Woodland schools.

For many years, she was head of housekeeping at Franklin Manor in Farmington and later was employed at Pine Point Manor.

She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary 57 of Old Orchard Beach and was a member of the Band Boosters. A devoted wife and mother, her priority was her family. She enjoyed playing bingo, listening to music and watching movies.

She is survived by her husband, Earle C. Towle, whom she married July 1, 1967, of Old Orchard Beach; one daughter, Terri (Towle) Lakin and her husband, Steve, of Wilton; one son, Shawn Towle and his friend, Jeffrey Clifford, of Portland; a granddaughter, Amanda Young and her husband, Timothy, of Wilton; two brothers, George Hatt and his wife, Carol, of Mars Hill, and Roy Hatt and his wife, Millie, of Florida; one sister, Jean Brooks and her husband, Dave, of Dracut, Mass.; her dog, Lady; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a son, K. Blair Leighton; and a brother, Charles Hatt.
