HARTFORD – In addition to mishaps during local elections Tuesday, Hartford Selectman Lee Holman said the town may also run into problems with a proposed June 11 town meeting date.

On Tuesday, voters at the polls were asked to change the scheduled May 21 annual town meeting to June 11 because of computer problems that led to a delay in printing the warrant. However, Holman said, after speaking with a Maine Municipal Association attorney, she learned towns must hold elections and town meetings within a 14-day period if a single warrant is being used.

Holman said she expects that the town will have to draft a separate warrant in order to hold the annual town meeting.

The news came days after a petition was filed by residents protesting the proposed June 11 meeting because it conflicts with the Oxford County Bicentennial Celebration.

All may not be lost, said Holman, who would like to avoid the bicentennial celebration conflict. “We were extremely upset when we heard that we completely blew this date,” she said.
