RUMFORD – Police chiefs expected Tuesday night at a meeting on a possible police merger of Dixfield, Mexico and Rumford departments went missing.
Only four people showed up – Rumford Town Manager Steve Eldridge, Mexico Town Manager John Madigan, Dixfield Town Manager Nanci Allard and Dixfield Selectman Raymond “Tiny” Carlton.
At Tuesday’s 6 p.m. meeting in Rumford’s Municipal Building, Dixfield Chief Richard Pickett, Mexico Chief James Theriault and Rumford Chief Timothy Bourassa were scheduled to share needs assessment data related to police coverage in their towns.
Chief Deputy Jim Davis of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office in Paris was to have compiled the numbers of emergency calls made to the Oxford County Regional Communications Center in Paris from each of the towns for the meeting.
Eldridge, who reluctantly canceled the meeting, didn’t say when the regionalization group’s next monthly gathering would be scheduled.
