PARIS – The Norway-Paris Solid Waste Board of Directors still is researching a proposal to hire a private company to run the Brown Street transfer station, said the corporation’s general manager.

Alison McCrady said Tuesday that information packets were distributed by board member Art Hill at a meeting the night before.

“Privatization was tabled again for the board of directors to look over all the information that they have,” she said. “Nothing happened again.”

McCrady is among those who could lose their jobs if the board hires a private company to run the dump. Board President Eric Grondahl has said there is no way to force a private company to retain existing workers.

Grondahl could not be reached for comment Tuesday morning, but at a May 4 meeting he said the board of directors should hold a working session to discuss the dump issue. He also said the board should draft a request for proposals for contractors interested in running the dump, then send the request to Norway, Paris and Ferg Lea of the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments for review.

He has said Norway-Paris Solid Waste may be able to save money by hiring a private contractor to run the dump.

McCrady said the next regular meeting of the board of directors is scheduled for June 13.
