SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) – Maine Public Radio and WGME-TV won “Station of the Year” honors Saturday night in the annual Maine Associated Press Broadcasters Association contest.
Portland’s WGME-TV took first place in television newscast, feature, enterprise, medical, writing and continuous coverage categories, while WMTW-TV won for weathercast, sportscast, election coverage and videography. Bangor’s WABI-TV won first place for spot news and WVII-TV for public affairs.
On the radio side, Maine Public Radio won first place in the enterprise, public affairs, feature, medical and continuous coverage categories. Portland’s WGAN-AM took first place for newscast, while WQCB-FM in Brewer won for spot news and election coverage.
Bangor’s WZON-AM won the most sports categories, including sportscast, sports feature and sports play-by-play.
