PORTLAND (AP) – Gary Cates knocked in two runs in game one and scored twice in the nightcap as the Bowie Baysox swept the Portland Sea Dogs 2-1 and 4-0 Sunday.

A pair of seven-inning games were scheduled due to a rainout Saturday. In game one, the Sea Dogs took a first-inning lead when Hanley Ramirez singled, stole second, advanced to third on an error and came home on a groundout.

The Baysox tied it in the sixth when Woody Cliffords doubled and scored on Cates’ single.

Bowie plated the game-winner in the eighth when Tripper Johnson singled, advanced to third on Simon Pond’s double and scampered home on Cates’ sacrifice fly.

In game two, the Baysox (22-20) tallied the game-winner when Cates doubled and scored in the third inning. After Cliffords’ two-run double made it 3-0 in the sixth, Cates walked and scored in the seventh.

The Sea Dogs (22-16) managed only four hits in the nightcap.
