Police and paramedics were handling a car crash Sunday night on Route 113 in remote Evans Notch.

At least one person was being transported to a hospital, according to Oxford County dispatch. The county’s Sheriff’s Department was investigating the wreck.

Details were sketchy late Sunday night.

At that time it wasn’t clear if the crash involved more than one vehicle. The wreck was reported at about 9:30 p.m.

Communication between dispatchers and first responders placed the crash closer to the Stow end of the highway than the Gilead end. Gilead firefighters were assigned to close off the road at its northern end, where it joins Route 2.

The state highway continues on from Stow into Fryeburg.

The scenic but narrow and winding two-lane road nearly parallels the New Hampshire border for several miles.

It cuts through a section of the White Mountain National Forest and provides access to several popular campgrounds and a multitude of trail systems.
