LEWISTON – Still bitter about that speeding ticket you got 10 years ago? Here’s a thought: Go to Irving Mainway on Friday afternoon and let a cop pump your gas and wash your windshield.
Police, dispatchers and athletes will be at the Main Street filling station to help raise money for the Special Olympics. They will do so by pumping gas, wiping down windshields and selling Harley-Davidson raffle tickets.
The event is planned in anticipation of the yearly Special Olympics Torch Run, during which police from across Maine will carry the Torch of Hope from one city to the next.
Irving will donate 5 cents to the Special Olympics for every gallon of gasoline purchased during the fund-raiser.
“We are very excited to be entering our third year in partnership with Irving Oil and the law enforcement community in support of Special Olympics in Maine, as we make a good event, great!” said Phil Geelhoed, chief executive officer with Special Olympics of Maine. “The results we have seen to date far exceed our original hope for success, and this success is due in large part to the effort and support of Irving Oil’s employees and the long-standing dedication of Maine’s law enforcement community.”
