FARMINGTON – Police arrested a 36-year-old Farmington man after an officer was shoved and a window kicked out of a police cruiser Monday night.

According to Sgt. Shane Cote of the Farmington Police Department, he went to Harold Enman’s house on Box Shop Hill Road about 9:30 p.m. Monday after Enman’s former girlfriend called saying she was worried. She told police that Enman was driving by her home, was intoxicated and had a firearm. It was her second harassment complaint about him, Cote said Tuesday.

Enman leaped out of his truck and began cursing at Cote when he pulled up to Enman’s driveway, Cote said.

“You have no right to be here,” Enman said, according to Cote.

Then, Cote said, Enman shoved him.

When Cote attempted to arrest him for assault, Enman ran to his house. A struggle ensued, and Cote handcuffed Enman after Officer Mary Pratt, who had arrived at the scene, threatened the man with pepper spray. The threat seemed to calm him down, said Cote.

But moments later, after being put into the back of the police car, Enman was screaming again and kicking at the back passenger side door. He broke the window and caused enough damage to the door to require a complete door replacement at a cost of about $2,400.

According to Cote, the whole incident, from the time he arrived at Enman’s house to check on his well-being to the time they arrived at the jail, lasted about 10 minutes.

Enman was charged with assault, resisting arrest and aggravated criminal mischief. He was released on $500 cash bail Tuesday with conditions that he not possess alcohol, drugs or dangerous weapons. An initial court date has been set for July 27, according to a correctional officer.
